HEBREWS 13:1-8 SHOW HOSPITALITY TO STRANGERS

1. Let love of the brethren continue. 2. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it. 3. Remember the prisoners, as though in prison with them, and those who are ill-treated, since you yourselves also are in the body. 4. Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge. 5. Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, ``I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU," 6. so that we confidently say, ``THE LORD IS MY HELPER, I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. WHAT WILL MAN DO TO ME?" 7. Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith. 8. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

4. ``Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one! 5. ``You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6. ``These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. 7. ``You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. 8. ``You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. 9. ``You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

LUKE 10:1-10 THE SENDING OF SEVENTY DISCIPLES

1. Now after this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come. 2. And He was saying to them, ``The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. 3. ``Go; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. 4. ``Carry no money belt, no bag, no shoes; and greet no one on the way. 5. ``Whatever house you enter, first say, `Peace be to this house.' 6. ``If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. 7. ``Stay in that house, eating and drinking what they give you; for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not keep moving from house to house. 8. ``Whatever city you enter and they receive you, eat what is set before you; 9. and heal those in it who are sick, and say to them, `The kingdom of God has come near to you.' 10. ``But whatever city you enter and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say,

ROMANS 7:15-25 A SLAVE TO GOD'S LAW

15. For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate. 16. But if I do the very thing I do not want to do, I agree with the Law, confessing that the Law is good. 17. So now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me. 18. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. 19. For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. 20. But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me. 21. I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good. 22. For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man, 23. but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members. 24. Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? 25. Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin.

MATTHEW 6:25-34 DO NOT WORRY

25. ``For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26. ``Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? 27. ``And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? 28. ``And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, 29. yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30. ``But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! 31. ``Do not worry then, saying, `What will we eat?' or `What will we drink?' or `What will we wear for clothing?' 32. ``For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33. ``But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34. ``So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

JEREMIAH 31:23-26 GOD WILL REFRESH THE WEARY

23. Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, ``Once again they will speak this word in the land of Judah and in its cities when I restore their fortunes, `The LORD bless you, O abode of righteousness, O holy hill!' 24. ``Judah and all its cities will dwell together in it, the farmer and they who go about with flocks. 25. ``For I satisfy the weary ones and refresh everyone who languishes." 26. At this I awoke and looked, and my sleep was pleasant to me.

JEREMIAH 31:1-6 GOD COMES TO GIVE REST

1. ``At that time," declares the LORD, ``I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be My people." 2. Thus says the LORD, ``The people who survived the sword Found grace in the wilderness-- Israel, when it went to find its rest." 3. The LORD appeared to him from afar, saying, ``I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness. 4. ``Again I will build you and you will be rebuilt, O virgin of Israel! Again you will take up your tambourines, And go forth to the dances of the merrymakers. 5. ``Again you will plant vineyards On the hills of Samaria; The planters will plant And will enjoy them. 6. ``For there will be a day when watchmen On the hills of Ephraim call out, `Arise, and let us go up to Zion, To the LORD our God.'"

GENESIS 24:34-67 ISAAC MEETS REBEKAH

34. So he said, ``I am Abraham's servant. 35. ``The LORD has greatly blessed my master, so that he has become rich; and He has given him flocks and herds, and silver and gold, and servants and maids, and camels and donkeys. 36. ``Now Sarah my master's wife bore a son to my master in her old age, and he has given him all that he has. 37. ``My master made me swear, saying, `You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live; 38. but you shall go to my father's house and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son.' 39. ``I said to my master, `Suppose the woman does not follow me.' 40. ``He said to me, `The LORD, before whom I have walked, will send His angel with you to make your journey successful, and you will take a wife for my son from my relatives and from my father's house; 41. then you will be free from my oath, when you come to my relatives; and if they do not give her to you, you will be free from my oath.' 42. ``So I came today to the spring, and said, `O LORD, the God of my master Abraham, if now You will make my journey on which I go successful; 43. behold, I am standing by the spring, and may it be that the maiden who comes out to draw, and to whom I say, ``Please let me drink a little water from your jar"; 44. and she will say to me, ``You drink, and I will draw for your camels also"; let her be the woman whom the LORD has appointed for my master's son.' 45. ``Before I had finished speaking in my heart, behold, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder, and went down to the spring and drew, and I said to her, `Please let me drink.' 46. ``She quickly lowered her jar from her shoulder, and said, `Drink, and I will water your camels also'; so I drank, and she watered the camels also. 47. ``Then I asked her, and said, `Whose daughter are you?' And she said, `The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcah bore to him'; and I put the ring on her nose, and the bracelets on her wrists. 48. ``And I bowed low and worshiped the LORD, and blessed the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who had guided me in the right way to take the daughter of my master's kinsman for his son. 49. ``So now if you are going to deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me; and if not, let me know, that I may turn to the right hand or the left." 50. Then Laban and Bethuel replied, ``The matter comes from the LORD; so we cannot speak to you bad or good. 51. ``Here is Rebekah before you, take her and go, and let her be the wife of your master's son, as the LORD has spoken." 52. When Abraham's servant heard their words, he bowed himself to the ground before the LORD. 53. The servant brought out articles of silver and articles of gold, and garments, and gave them to Rebekah; he also gave precious things to her brother and to her mother. 54. Then he and the men who were with him ate and drank and spent the night. When they arose in the morning, he said, ``Send me away to my master." 55. But her brother and her mother said, ``Let the girl stay with us a few days, say ten; afterward she may go." 56. He said to them, ``Do not delay me, since the LORD has prospered my way. Send me away that I may go to my master." 57. And they said, ``We will call the girl and consult her wishes." 58. Then they called Rebekah and said to her, ``Will you go with this man?" And she said, ``I will go." 59. Thus they sent away their sister Rebekah and her nurse with Abraham's servant and his men. 60. They blessed Rebekah and said to her, ``May you, our sister, Become thousands of ten thousands, And may your descendants possess The gate of those who hate them." 61. Then Rebekah arose with her maids, and they mounted the camels and followed the man. So the servant took Rebekah and departed. 62. Now Isaac had come from going to Beer-lahai-roi; for he was living in the Negev. 63. Isaac went out to meditate in the field toward evening; and he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, camels were coming. 64. Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac she dismounted from the camel. 65. She said to the servant, ``Who is that man walking in the field to meet us?" And the servant said, ``He is my master." Then she took her veil and covered herself. 66. The servant told Isaac all the things that he had done. 67. Then Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and he took Rebekah, and she became his wife, and he loved her; thus Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.
