ROMANS 8:6-11 THE REALM OF THE SPIRIT

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.

ACTS 20:7-12 PAUL RAISES A YOUNG MAN

On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight. 8 There were many lamps in the upstairs room where we were meeting. 9 Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead. 10 Paul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “He’s alive!” 11 Then he went upstairs again and broke bread and ate. After talking until daylight, he left. 12 The people took the young man home alive and were greatly comforted.

EZEKIEL 37:1-14 VALLEY OF DRY BONES

The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. 2 He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. 3 He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”

MATTHEW 4:1-11 THE TEMPTATION OF JESUS

1. Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2. And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry. 3. And the tempter came and said to Him, ``If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread." 4. But He answered and said, ``It is written, `MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'" 5. Then the devil took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, 6. and said to Him, ``If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, `HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU'; and `ON their HANDS THEY WILL BEAR YOU UP, SO THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE YOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.'" 7. Jesus said to him, ``On the other hand, it is written, `YOU SHALL NOT PUT THE LORD YOUR GOD TO THE TEST.'" 8. Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; 9. and he said to Him, ``All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me." 10. Then Jesus said to him, ``Go, Satan! For it is written, `YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.'" 11. Then the devil left Him; and behold, angels came and began to minister to Him.

PSALM 2 BE WARNED, RULERS OF THE EARTH

1. Why are the nations in an uproar And the peoples devising a vain thing? 2. The kings of the earth take their stand And the rulers take counsel together Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, 3. ``Let us tear their fetters apart And cast away their cords from us!" 4. He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them. 5. Then He will speak to them in His anger And terrify them in His fury, saying, 6. ``But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain." 7. ``I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, `You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. 8. `Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, And the very ends of the earth as Your possession. 9. `You shall break them with a rod of iron, You shall shatter them like earthenware.'" 10. Now therefore, O kings, show discernment; Take warning, O judges of the earth. 11. Worship the LORD with reverence And rejoice with trembling. 12. Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way, For His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!

2 PETER 1:16-21 EYEWITNESSES OF HIS MAJESTY

16. For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17. For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, ``This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased"-- 18. and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. 19. So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. 20. But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, 21. for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

ISAIAH 55:1-7 TURN TO THE LORD

1. ``Ho! Every one who thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have no money come, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk Without money and without cost. 2. ``Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And delight yourself in abundance. 3. ``Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen, that you may live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you, According to the faithful mercies shown to David. 4. ``Behold, I have made him a witness to the peoples, A leader and commander for the peoples. 5. ``Behold, you will call a nation you do not know, And a nation which knows you not will run to you, Because of the LORD your God, even the Holy One of Israel; For He has glorified you." 6. Seek the LORD while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near. 7. Let the wicked forsake his way And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return to the LORD, And He will have compassion on him, And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.
